There is so much happening with the UNLV Rebel Golf Team , I felt they should have a separate section. ( Now, if I can just keep it up to date ). They have at times, ranked #1 on all three college polls. Coached by Dwaine Knight, the Rebels are always in contention and at the top. UNLV is the college of choice that Tiger Woods wanted, however - as we know, his parents chose Stanford.
Many of the former team members have gone own to play on the various tours. The list and special information on those players, is located at LV Tour Players . Other former players and what they are doing, can be found at the end of this page at What happened to.... .
In 1995 they placed 2nd, behind the Cardinals team that was led by Tiger Woods.
In 1996, six of the UNLV players were ranked in the top 100 college players throughout the US. Is that strong - or what!
For 1997, UNLV won the Western Regional NCAA Championship, played May 15-17, and were the #1 team in the finals to be played at Conway Farms Country Club, Lake Forest, Il., May 28-31. However, they missed the 1997 cut - but as you will see - made up for that in a big way. They finished the 96-97 season ranked #1 in the Rolex Collegiate Golf Rankings, and #2 in the Golf Week/Taylor Made Rankings.
In 1998-99 the UNLV Rebels went all the way and won the 1998 NCAA Championship.
In 1999-2000, they were never below #4 in the rankings of any of the three polls.
Now, get this - How do you think Coach Knight felt when the President of the United States called and invites you and your team to Washington, DC, to meet and play golf? That's what happened! Vegas Golfer Magazine, in the Jan-Feb, 2000 issue, had the complete story - with photos.

Nov 14, 2001 - UNLV men's golf head coach Dwaine Knight signed junior stars Ryan Posey and Ryan Keeney to national letters of intent to play for UNLV starting with the 2002-2003 season.
Posey, an honor student at Highlands High School in Dallas, Texas, led the Scots to back-to-back 4A state titles. Along with a victory at the North Texas PGA Championship, he played in six of the nation's top 10 junior events and recorded a win, two runner-up finishes and a fourth-place showing. Posey chose UNLV over prestigious programs such as Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Texas, SMU and TCU.
Keeney, from Redmond, Wash., earned AJGA All-America honors last year, highlighted by a victory at the AJGL Club Corp Junior at Mission Hills in Palm Springs, Calif., and a runner-up showing after losing a playoff at the Las Vegas Founders' Legacy Junior last June. He is also an honor student, attending Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, Wash., where he led the Vikings to four straight district championships. Keeney was the individual runner-up at last year's Washington state championship where he lost to current Rebel Ryan Moore and won the junior state crown in 1998. Keeney chose UNLV over Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Pepperdine and Southern California.
