Originally referred to as The Links at Monte Lago, the name was changed just before the official opening. It is the second course designed by Jack Nicklaus within the same location as the South Shore Golf Club , however this one is open for public play. Reflection Bay, from the air, looks like a green oasis winding through the desert hillside and down to the waters of Lake Las Vegas ( which feeds into Lake Mead ). It was sodded with over 94 acres of sod, in lieu of seeding, to hasten the opening date and to be able to over seed for winter by schedule. The course is laid out with 1 1/2 miles of the fairways along the shoreline of the lake. Nine holes will have water to contend with in some way, with other holes forcing caries over or around arroyos and canyons. With 81 sand bunkers and three waterfalls, it is a great test of your skills. The greens are very protected and will require some well struck iron shots. You will have, within the 18 holes, a feeling that you are playing a seaside course then quickly changed to a desert course, then all of a sudden your on a mountain course. The course is set up for all players to enjoy: wide fairways for the high handicap player, length from the back tees and small greens for the low handicap player. The Reflection Bay was chosen as one of the top ten courses for 1999 by Golf Magazine. It has served as host course to the Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge so you may have seen it on TV. Lake Las Vegas which still has two more courses planned at this location, has been chosen as one of the top 10 semi-retirement communities in the country.
The Revere
The Revere now has two courses to choose for your play. The first course was originally referred to as "The Revere @ Anthem", and is generally the one (even now) thought of when The Revere is mentioned. However, with the planning of the second course, they started calling it "The Lexington". The second course, opened in June 2002 is named "The Concord". The same clubhouse serves both courses.

The 2nd course at The Revere is now open. It is a course that has a combination of single and parallel fairways that meander through the canyons, creating a variety of golf experiences for the player. The Concord features a five-acre lake and dramatic elevation changes. The fairways are Bermuda with bent-grass greens. The new present 23,000 sqft. club house for the Revere will also be the clubhouse for the Concord. The desert canyons provide natural elevation changes and can tend to give you a feeling of seclusion on some holes - but with the addition of all the houses, that could change. However, with the houses on the ridge tops, it will be rare for them to distract you. Holes 1 through 4 plays downhill through a canyon, while holes 5 through 9 plays back up through the same canyon. The sides slope back towards the center, so if you hit a bad shot - slice or hook, it may just come back down towards the fairway. The back nine, on the other hand, plays along ridge tops and down into multiple canyons, and is a bit more wide open than the front nine.

From the tee box, as you take your stance to blast a drive, you look towards the fairway and then you notice that the whole Vegas Valley can be seen before you - and snow capped (in the winter) Charleston Mountain and the Sheep Mountains some 60-75 miles away! Breath taking views are just a standard part of the beauty of this course. Arriving at your ball for the second shot, you notice you are now totally lost in the game of golf, seemingly all by yourself . This is the way it will play for all 18 holes! It is a gorgeous course that is going to be tough to play golf with all the beautiful views to distract the game. Magnificent - Awesome - Fantastic - poor words for describing The Revere at Anthem! That's the type of course this is. Their theme "A Revolutionary Golf Experience" seems to me to be an understatement. This course is going to prove to be one of the most popular choices in the valley. There are 6 holes were you will notice water, and a magnificent 100ft multi-tier waterfall behind the green of #7. Thirteen of the 18 holes are played within the canyons, and there are severe elevation changes ( 100-250ft ) through out the course. The way the tees and the course is laid out, there will be a different challenge for each level of play - hidden bunkers ( with beautiful pure sand ), berms cutting across the fairways, blind shots, & raised greens. If you can only play one course in town - by all means, play this one - you'll talk about it for a long time!
A second course has begun construction at the Revere, with an anticipated opening in late spring 2002. The course, like the Revere course, has also been designed by Greg Nash and Billy Casper. The new course, the Concord, will be a par 72 stretching over 7,100 yards and will feature a five-acre lake and more dramatic elevation changes.

A soft spike only 18 hole public course consisting of a 13,000sqft practice putting green, an 18,000sqft club house and pro shop. It is laid out on over 135 acres of grassed area, with a lot of lakes ( 8 ), waterfalls and over 100 sand traps. It is located in the foothills of the Spanish Mountains of the Red Rock Canyon area. ( for a map on the location, see the home page listed below ). The fairways are very narrow, so if you hook or slice - be prepared! The greens are undulating, tiered, and tricky. If you play here, land it a few feet short and take the bounce and roll - then Lord help you on the putt. The bunkers are placed just to drive you crazy but are easy to wedge out. It is a challenge from the tips and a pleasant course from the forward tees. A black & white stripped pole in the middle of the fairway marks the 150 yard spot, and all the sprinkler heads give the distance to the center of the green. On Father's Day, June 21, 1998 the course set a record for the "Guinness Book of World Records" for the most rounds played in a single day - 624. It was set up with 3 shotguns, double-tees on par 4's & 5's, with 6 players per group! Now get this - the time to play was between 4hrs 05min to 4hrs 15min!!! Everyone played ready golf and I enjoyed playing in the record setting event. Now, tell me again why it takes 5-7 hours to play a round of golf.

From the owner of Stallion Mountain and Desert Pines, Walters Golf ( formally Southwest Golf ) and the new Bali Hai , is another course. A 140 acre test of golf the old fashioned way - @ 7200yds from the tips. It is on the same side of town as Stallion, and just north of it, at Vegas Valley & Stephanie. It is a true "Links" style course, with holes designed after some of the most famous courses in England and Scotland such as St. Andrews - the Old Course, Muirfield, Royal Lytham, Royal Troon, Prestwick, and Carnouste. The goal was to recreate a Scottish golf atmosphere, including the 7,000 sq ft clubhouse that resembles a Scottish castle - a goal that was accomplished quite well. Within the clubhouse is a museum dedicated to all past winners of "The Open". Monuments and markers are placed throughout the course to pay homage to the great players and moments in golf history. Each tee box has a plaque describing that hole and its place in history. I recommend you also pick up a copy of the yardage book in the clubhouse, not only does it give you the needed information about the holes, but is filled with much additional historical information. A great place to play if you want to try something totally different yet rewarding. All carts are equipped with a GPS system.

The first course to open in Las Vegas in the new Millenium. Located in the gated community in the Siena, the front nine opened in January of 2000, with the full 18 scheduled to be completed in the summer. The back nine opened the first of June - what do you know - a course that opened on schedule! Each hole has 5 tee positions. Bunkering and water treatments make accuracy more important than distance. There is a 1/4 mile long lake with cascading waterfalls. Even though water is noticeable on 6 of the first 9 holes, it really only comes into play on 4 holes. It sure is a pretty course and offers some great views of the Vegas Valley, but watch out - that can lull you into too much complacency. The general break of the greens is away from the mountains. Practice facilities include a driving range and learning facility.

Well, several things happened on the way to opening. First, they have changed the name of the course. The new name is SilverStone Golf Club. It was originally planned to open Thanksgiving Weekend of 2000, but that was changed to the end of January 2001, next changed to looking like mid-March. Then I heard the opening was postponed until September, however - on June 1, 2001 they finally made it!
The 27-hole golf facility is located in Mountain Spa, a European-style community of upscale homes, in northwest Las Vegas, and is managed by the Meadowbrook Golf Group, Inc. The facility will be open to the public, though it will be promoted as a high-end and upscale semiprivate club. It is located north of Centennial and east of U.S. 95 near the old Floyd Lamb State Park with a spectacular view of the Sheep Mountain Range. SilverStone is made up of three rotating championship style nines, so that you will always have a great conditioned 18 to play - with lots of water to dodge. Four sets of tees will provide a demanding and challenging game from the back tees; playable and enjoyable for all handicap levels from the forward tees. There are six Par 5 holes that average 590yds from the tips, with 4 of them over 600yds (the longest - a 653yd nightmare with a large lake protecting the green)! One good thing - all of the problems are in plain view of the player, with no hidden tricks to be found, although there is plenty of trouble for wayward shots, and the greens that are small and undulated. If the wind is blowing, SilverStone has just increased the degree of difficulty. The new 25,000-square foot clubhouse will be ready about the first of next year.

Surprise - a TPC course that has wide-open fairways and only one hole to contend with water. But that don't mean it's going to play easy, as a glance at the slope and ratings that will change your mind (remember - it is a TPC course). The soft undulating greens are typically TPC fast. A lot of medium size trees, elevation changes, steep ravines and 85 sand traps will give you a real game. It is playable at all levels except the beginner, and you better bring along an extra dozen balls. To give you an idea, it is now the new home to the Las Vegas Senior Classic in April, and if you watch ESPN's coverage any year, you can get a real idea of how tough it can be with the wind blowing. ESPN does a fine job on coverage of both Las Vegas and the course. Wildlife that can be seen on the course varies from the kit fox, squirrels, rabbits, coyotes, rattlesnakes, egrets, herons, to bobcats.
The course has just completed (in 2000) an extensive redesign and workover to make the course a lot more player friendly. They replaced the fronts on Nos. 1 and 5, built up the back of the green on the par-3 second so that shots will hold better, built new tees on Nos. 13, 14 and 18, and put about 3,500 square feet of turf to the right of a bunker in front of the 4th green.

Originally opened as Paradise Valley Country Club, (then a PGA host course), then sold and changed to Showboat Golf & C.C., next came Indian Wells, followed by Royal Kinsfield C.C, and currently Wildhorse ( now managed by American Golf Corp ). It has had more owners and gone through more make-overs than any other course in Las Vegas. I have played it under every name, and liked the original Paradise best, second when it was Showboat. And now I don't like it at all - and just don't play it anymore. It is minus a lot of big beautiful trees, and those that are still there have been thinned and trimmed so that now they look like pom-pom's on a stick! The greens are undulating, tiered and protected by bunkers - so watch out for them. There are some demanding water holes. The 18th green has water all around the front and sides, that is a big collector of balls. The course can put a little test to your golfing skills. In my opinion, the fairways and greens are always having problems. They really are trying to bring it back - in my opinion: I think they made it pretty close! But it still has a lot of brown sports on the course at a time when it shouldn't..

- Note on Course Rates - The rates posted within these pages are as accurate possible and current when I contact the individual courses. I check with each course about 6 times a year to keep as current as possible. However, they can change without notice and just because the rates are posted on this web site, does not mean that is the rate they must allow you to play at. Please check with the course that you are interested in playing to get the latest rates for the time of year you will be playing.
I have summarized the courses by rates on the Rate Summary Page. This page will seasonally change and maintain a list of the courses by lowest to highest rates.
- Map of Course Locations - To give you a rough idea of where the courses are located in relation to where you may be staying, I have included a color-coded map. It is not to any scale, and only some major streets are shown. I am not a map maker - as you can tell - but it should give you the basic idea. The colors of the numbers correspond to the color coding of the different sections of courses. I did notice that if you use the web site information by "Golfweb" or "iGolf", there are very detailed maps to the location of each course. You can zoom in and out to get a really good picture of the relationships of the course to where you will be staying. If either one has a link to the course, it is located under "Additional web information" at the end of the description of each course.
