The course is soft spikes only, and they are strong against slow play. The fairways are very narrow, however, the side areas are severely sloped inward, so if that slice or hook isn't too bad, it may have a good bounce and end up back in the fairway. 3,000 mature pine trees were planted during construction to instantly make a full-fledged course. The greens are very undulating ( not many flat spots for pin locations ), and in good shape. However, they do not tend to hold a shot hit to them - I recommend you hit just short and take the roll or the ball will not stay on the green. And if you can only two putt them, consider yourself good. The sprinkler heads are marked with yardage indicators to the center of the green, and there are bk/wh poles in the middle of the fairway for 150yd markers. Water comes into play on eight holes. All-in-all, its a pretty course - and pretty tight. All carts are equipped with a GPS system. The driving range, which was voted one of the top 10 in the US for 1997 (by Golf Range & Recreation Magazine ), is a two tier setup with an automatic ball dispensing system. There is also has a factory trained Callaway Golf custom club fitting center available at the driving range. Picked as the best golf course by the "writers" of the LV Review Journal "Best of Las Vegas", March 23, 1997, even though the "readers" & players, picked Badlands.

Originally opened as Winterwood Golf Course. In the early 90's, Jim Colbert's (PGA, SPGA player) company took over and was the manager of the course until sometime in 1996, now it is managed by American Golf Corp - yet still owned by Clark County. The course has narrow fairways and is rather flat for the most part, with a few fairway grass bunkers and the greens are guarded by sand traps. It is the site of the Clark County Amateur Championship yearly in November. There is a wash (large ditch) that runs through the middle of the course with the fairways on both sides and comes into play on all but 3 holes, and is treated as a lateral hazard. It was recently redone to the tune of a few million $. The improvements made were really nice and made make the wash so that you are able to hit out of it for the most part. It's really not that bad of a course to play, but if you are a slicer the wash will get you. If you're a hooker, the out of bounds all along the left side will cause you problems - like I said - the fairways are fairly narrow. ( But, I do have a soft spot for this course, as it was the course I first played golf - back in 1969 ). American Golf is now the management firm for the course.

An executive size course that overlooks the Las Vegas valley in the retirement community of MacDonald Ranch @ Henderson (a Sun City development). This is a challenging little course for a quick round. The fairways are in beautiful condition and sometimes very narrow. The greens are fast and putt true to the break, but you better read them again just to make sure. The course is very deceptive if you just look at the score card, with 6 par 3's and only 3 par 4's per side, it is a great tune-up course for the short game and it will let you use the driver on a couple of holes. Water comes into play on only three holes - on the 5th, 9th and of course the 18th (just in time to screw up a good round!). The course is very nicely landscaped. If you think you have a good short game, come out and prove it on this course.

Opened November 2, 2002, Designed by Schmidt-Curley.
Tee times: up to 7 days in advance.
Originally referred to as the Northwest Family Golf Course and Park, it is an executive type course located at the corner of Cheyenne and Durango in North Las Vegas. Built on a 64-acre facility, it was designed by the highly regarded Arizona firm of Schmidt-Curley (which designed Siena Golf Club and Bali Hai Golf Club) - you just know that it is going to have some interesting little holes, not like your normal thought of executive course. It is a par-58, with 14 par-3 holes and four par-4s and will play just under 3,800 yards from the back tees. Schmidt-Curley designed the course in such a way to force low handicap golfers to be precise with their irons while allowing high handicappers the ability to roll the ball. There are few forced carries, yet two lakes come into play on holes 9 and 10, so beginners will be able to play without losing a lot of golf balls. Due to the limited space, there will not be a driving range available. Something worth noting: it is the first golf course in the nation to be completely approved by the American Disabilities Act. With curved walkways and sand traps built to allow motorized carts to get in and out, are only a few of the features that will allow the disabled, even those in wheelchairs, to play an enjoyable round of golf. The new course is managed by the IRI Golf Group of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

Designed with the senior player in mind. With 6 par 3's and 3 par 4's on each side, it is a nice little executive links type course that is a lot of fun to play. There are large landing areas on the par 4's, and almost all the greens are big. The greens are undulating and the break can be tricky. The course will satisfy all levels of players, but watch out for the bunkers - they are well placed and can reach out and grab a ball. It is located in the retirement community of Sun City @ Summerlin.

A third golf course at Lake Las Vegas, designed by Tom Weiskopf, began construction with a completion date of May 2002. However - the course did open until September 25th, 2002 so that it could mature and construction on the clubhouse would be finished. The par 72 course is open to the public, and measures 5,400 yards from the forward tees and 7,100 yards from the back tees. The course has extensive water features and water on 6 holes. "The golf course has two very contrasting nines," Weiskopf said. " The front nine exists in more subtle elevation changes and winds through the natural desert landscape. The back nine has quite dramatic changes in elevation with spectacular views to the distant mountains and downtown Las Vegas." I think the 17th hole will be the signature hole with 160 ft waterfall, although it will not be the largest - there is also a 220 ft waterfall. He feels that this course is one that will be a challenge for the world's best players yet a fun test for mid- and high-handicappers. " An 18-handicapper won't have to shoot the round of his life to break 100," Weiskopf said, "but a scratch golfer won't find it easy to match par."

This course wanders through a housing development, and has no parallel holes. The layout offers some very scenic views of the valley and the mountains, especially from the tee boxes, as they are also elevated. The course was designed for retired players (even though they do have some very large sand traps) with wide open fairways and landing areas, but offers enough challenging holes for all levels of players with its links style layout. Water comes into play on only 3 holes. Pay attention to your lie in the fairways, as the elevation changes can be very deceptive. The fairways have very few trees to bother your shots, most of the greens are large but tricky (always break towards the strip as the greens are sloped upwards towards the mountains) and both are always in good condition. You won't lose many balls on this course and the average golfer will feel that you really do have a chance for some par holes. Again please note - the greens can be very deceptive and always break towards the strip. Although it is part of the Sun City Retirement Complex, it is one of the few courses in the city that actually blocks a set of tee times for public play on the weekends.

- Note on Course Rates - The rates posted within these pages are as accurate possible and current when I contact the individual courses. I check with each course about 6 times a year to keep as current as possible. However, they can change without notice and just because the rates are posted on this web site, does not mean that is the rate they must allow you to play at. Please check with the course that you are interested in playing to get the latest rates for the time of year you will be playing.
I have summarized the courses by rates on the Rate Summary Page. This page will seasonally change and maintain a list of the courses by lowest to highest rates.
